Coach Matt Martin

     Matt Martin is entering his 12th year as head coach of Tiger football.  In addition to head coaching duties, he coaches the defensive line and punters.  During his eleven year tenure as head coach, the Tigers have a compiled record of 89 wins against 31 losses.  Coach Martin first worked at Edwardsville High School as a health teacher and coach from 1999 – 2003 before departing to become the head football coach at Granite City High School.  Coach Martin returned to EHS in 2008 as a teacher and assistant coach.  Currently, Coach Martin teaches Health & PE and coaches the throwers for the boys track and field team.

     The Tiger football teams have qualified for the IHSA post-season playoffs during every year under Coach Martin’s leadership.  Under Martin’s direction, the 2012 football team advanced to the IHSA Class 7A quarterfinals, the 2013 team advanced to the Class 7A semi-finals and 2016 team advanced to the 8A quarterfinals.  In addition he led his teams to three consecutive Southwestern Conference Championships in 2013, 2014 and 2015. 

     Coach Martin is a graduate of Western Illinois University and Master’s degree from McKendree University. He began his teaching and coaching career at Harvard High School in Harvard, Illinois, where he spent three years. Coach Martin and his wife Jill have three children: Kennedy, Trevor, and Kate.
